General

What is FateWheel?
FateWheel is a free online spinning wheel tool that lets you make random selections quickly. Use it for picking names, making decisions, running raffles and giveaways, classroom activities, team assignments, and more.
Is FateWheel free to use?
Yes, FateWheel is completely free with no premium tiers, paywalls, or usage limits. All features — including customization, sharing, embedding, and specialized tools — are available to every user at no cost.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can create and spin wheels without an account — your wheel data is saved locally in your browser. However, creating a free account lets you save multiple wheels to the cloud, submit wheels to the public gallery, get embed codes, and access your dashboard with spin statistics.
What can I use FateWheel for?
FateWheel works great for a variety of scenarios: picking random names in classrooms, choosing what to eat, running giveaways and raffles, making group decisions, assigning tasks, playing party games, creating interactive content for streams or websites, and any situation where you need a fair random selection.

Customization

How do I customize my wheel?
On the homepage, you can add or edit entries using Basic mode (quick text entry) or Advanced mode (with drag-and-drop reordering). You can also customize each entry's color, adjust the spin duration (1–10 seconds), toggle sound effects and confetti celebrations, and give your wheel a custom title.
Can I change the colors of wheel segments?
Yes. Each wheel entry can have its own custom color. Click on an entry to change its color using the color picker. The wheel displays each segment with the color you assign.
What are weighted entries?
Weighted entries let you control the probability of each option being selected. By default, every entry has a weight of 1 (equal chance). If you set one entry's weight to 2, it has twice the chance of winning compared to entries with a weight of 1. This is useful for raffles where some participants have earned extra entries.
Can I remove a winning entry after it's picked?
Yes. You can enable the option to remove entries after they're selected. This is useful for name-drawing scenarios where each person should only be picked once — like a raffle or classroom activity.
Can I adjust the spin duration?
Yes. You can set the spin duration anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds. The default is 5 seconds. The wheel performs at least 5 full rotations before stopping, with a realistic deceleration animation.

Sharing & Embedding

How do I share my wheel with others?
Save your wheel and click the share button to generate a unique link. You can copy this link and send it to anyone. Private share links use secure random tokens, so only people with the link can access your wheel.
Can I embed a wheel on my website?
Yes. FateWheel provides an embed code (iframe) for any saved wheel. You can choose from size presets — Small (300×300), Medium (500×500), or Large (700×700) — and paste the code into your blog, website, or any platform that supports HTML embeds.
Who can see my wheel?
By default, your wheels are private (draft status) and only visible to you. Wheels shared via link are accessible to anyone with that specific link. If you submit a wheel to the public gallery and it's approved, it becomes publicly browsable.

Randomness & Fairness

Is the wheel truly random?
Yes. FateWheel uses a weighted random selection algorithm. Each spin generates a random value that determines where the wheel stops. When all entries have equal weight, every option has an exactly equal chance of being selected. The visual animation is synchronized to match the randomly determined result.
Why did the same entry win twice in a row?
This is normal and actually expected with true randomness. Just like flipping a coin can land on heads multiple times in a row, a random wheel can select the same entry consecutively. Each spin is independent. If you want to avoid repeats, enable the "remove entry after win" option.
How do weighted entries affect probability?
The probability of an entry being selected equals its weight divided by the total weight of all entries. For example, if you have three entries with weights 1, 1, and 2, the third entry has a 50% chance (2 out of 4 total weight) while the others each have 25%.

Specialized Tools

What specialized wheel tools are available?
FateWheel offers several purpose-built tools beyond the main wheel: a Random Name Picker for selecting names from a list, a Yes/No Wheel for quick binary decisions, a Team Generator for dividing people into balanced groups, and a Country Picker for exploring and selecting random countries.
What is the Random Name Picker?
The Random Name Picker is a specialized tool designed for selecting random names from a list. It's ideal for teachers calling on students, managers assigning tasks, or anyone who needs to pick names fairly.
What is the Team Generator?
The Team Generator lets you enter a list of names and automatically divides them into balanced teams. It's useful for classroom group projects, sports teams, game nights, or any activity that requires fair team distribution.

Account & Privacy

How do I create an account?
You can sign up using your email address and a password, or sign in instantly with your Google account. Email registration requires a quick verification step.
Where is my wheel data stored?
If you're not signed in, your wheel data is saved locally in your browser's storage — it stays on your device and persists between sessions. If you're signed in and save a wheel, it's also stored securely in the cloud so you can access it from any device.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your wheels are private by default. Wheel data saved locally never leaves your device. Cloud-saved wheels are only accessible to you unless you explicitly share a link or submit to the public gallery. FateWheel does not sell or share your personal data with third parties.
Can I delete my wheels and data?
Yes. You can delete any of your saved wheels from the My Wheels page. Local wheel data can be cleared by resetting the wheel on the homepage or clearing your browser's local storage.
