A Secret Santa Generator Where the Organizer Can Play Too

Add the names, hit draw, and share one link. Every person taps their own name, watches a wheel of names spin and land on the person they are gifting, and a gift box opens with their match. No screen shows the organizer who got whom, so you can play too.

FateWheel has no accounts and asks for no email addresses, so there is nothing to sign up for and no inbox full of reminder emails. It handles the awkward parts too: someone drops out, a latecomer joins, a link gets lost. All free, and fixing any of them changes as few matches as possible.

How the Secret Santa Generator Works

  1. Add the names

Paste a list straight from your group chat, one name per line. Three people is the minimum, a hundred is the maximum.

  2. Set the rules (optional)

Keep couples and siblings from drawing each other, add a budget, a date and a note for the group. We warn you right away if the rules leave no possible draw.

  3. Draw and share one link

Press draw. You get a group link where everyone taps their own name, or private personal links to send one by one on WhatsApp, Telegram or text.

  4. Everyone reveals their match

Each person opens their link, spins the wheel and finds out who they are gifting. They can add a wishlist for their own Secret Santa to see.

Why Use FateWheel for Secret Santa

No emails, no accounts

Nobody types an email address and nobody creates a login. You share links, they tap them. That is the whole setup.

Matches stay hidden

No page the organizer sees shows who got whom. A match appears only when its owner opens their own link, so keep personal links private.

Free fixes

Someone dropped out? A friend joined late? A link got lost? Repair it in a tap, and only one person's match changes.

One link for the whole group

Skip pasting thirty personal links. Post a single group link and everyone taps their own name once.

White Elephant Rules and a Turn-Order Generator

A white elephant (also called Yankee Swap or Dirty Santa) is a party game: everyone brings one wrapped gift, and players take turns either opening a gift or stealing one that is already open. The FateWheel generator deals a random turn order so nobody argues about who goes first.

  1. Everyone brings one gift

Wrap it, agree a price limit up front, and pile all the gifts in the middle.

  2. Draw the turn order

Everyone gets a random number. Player 1 goes first and opens any wrapped gift.

  3. Open or steal

On your turn, either open a new gift or steal an opened gift from someone. The person who loses a gift takes their turn immediately.

  4. Three steals and it is frozen

A gift can be stolen at most three times. After that it is frozen and stays with its owner.

  5. Player 1 gets a final turn

Once the last gift is opened, player 1 may swap with anyone, unless that gift is frozen.

Secret Santa Generator FAQ

Is it really secret? Can the organizer see who got whom?

No page you manage as the organizer shows the matches: not the results screen, not the organizer link. A match is shown only when its owner opens their own link. One honest caveat: as the organizer you hold the personal links, and opening one would reveal that person's match and show it as opened. Share the group link instead and everyone taps their own name once; a name already claimed shows as taken.

What if someone drops out of the exchange?

Open your organizer link and remove them. The person who was gifting to them simply inherits their giftee, so only one existing match changes. That person sees a "your match changed" note the next time they open their link.

What if someone joins late, or loses their link?

A latecomer is spliced into the chain, so again only one match changes. A lost link can be replaced with a fresh one in a tap: the person keeps the same match, and the old link stops working.

How do exclusions work?

Pick two names that must not draw each other, such as a couple or two siblings. The rule applies in both directions. If your exclusions leave no valid draw at all, the generator tells you before you draw.

How does white elephant work, and what are the rules?

Everyone brings a wrapped gift and players go in a random order, either opening a gift or stealing an opened one. A gift is frozen after three steals, and the first player gets a final turn to swap. Our white elephant tab deals the order and lists the house rules to share.

Do I need email addresses or accounts?

No. You never collect emails and nobody signs up. Share one group link, or a private link per person, over WhatsApp, text, Telegram, Slack or anywhere else.

How many people can I include?

From 3 to 100. For larger groups, use the single group link instead of personal links: everyone taps their own name once.

Is the Secret Santa generator free?

Yes, all of it: the draw, exclusions, group link, repairs and the white elephant generator. There is no paywall on fixing a dropout and no ads in the reveal. Exchanges are deleted automatically about 30 days after the gift date, or 4 months after you create them if you did not set a date.

Ready to Draw Names?
